Classes Each year we try to have 3 types of classes. Some years we will emphasize one area over another and what classes we actually have will depend a great deal on what teachers we have available.
- 1) Creation Science
- 2) Outdoor/Ecology/Environment
- 3) Physical Science
1) Creation science The Creation Science lectures each evening generally cover geological or other physical evidence that supports a young earth. Some of our speakers have been more geared to the philosophical issues involved such as the 2005 speaker from Gutenburg college in Eugene who spoke about the differences between "truth" and "fact" and why as Christians we must keep them distinct. [For those who missed it... Something can be true but cannot be "proven" so "science" does not accept it as fact. The existence of God cannot be "proven" by measurements so some people say it is therefore not true.] In our creation classes we assume the parents have covered the Biblical account of creation and we cover the physical evidence for a young earth, describe various problems with evolutionary thought, show the complexity and planning behind Gods creation and generally back up what you have taught at home. In ALL classes of whatever kind, the teachers make repeated reference to how Gods plan of creation works out around us. In rocket class we speak of Gods natural laws (called the "laws of science" by some) and how they work in the physical world around us to provide order and predictability.
2) Outdoor
Stream study. Usually bugs, water types, interaction of the animals in and around the water, and lots more.
Forestry
Fire Building
How the created world interacts with itself and us
3) Physical Science
Physics lessons such as rocket class- "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".
Chemistry lessons such as the 2006 Hydrogen making class where we split water.
Friction- how knots work and why; how does gravity affect a rolling ball on a slope.
Magnetism
Archeology- dinosaur bones, etc.
Recreation Like our classes, the recreation activities we have often depend on what instructors we have available. One area that we emphasize is that of "group sports" as homeschoolers don't often have this opportunity. Here are some we have had in the past. We have learned that some activities just don't work for some ages. Vollyball is great for a 13 year old but not for a 9 year old and every age loves archery and soccer.
